On September 7 and 8, the Morito Shrine Reitaisai was held in Hayama.

A traditional festival cherished by the local community each year,
the event brought energy and excitement to the town
as mikoshi portable shrines made their way through the streets of Hayama.

One of the highlights of the Morito Shrine Reitaisai is Hamamori,
a tradition in which the mikoshi are carried into the sea.

As the mikoshi enter the waters of Morito Beach,
the powerful sight offers a glimpse into Hayama’s deep connection
with the sea and its long-standing coastal traditions.

Another highlight is Hama-awase, when five mikoshi gather together at Morito Beach.
Seeing the mikoshi gathered along the shoreline creates a unique
and memorable scene that can only be experienced during this festival.

During the festival, a mikoshi came all the way to the entrance of Hayama Umi no Hotel.

The sight of the mikoshi passing right in front of the hotel was incredibly impressive.
Accompanied by the energetic calls of those carrying it,
the procession brought an exciting atmosphere to the hotel,
and our staff enjoyed being part of the celebration.

On September 8, the hotel welcomed the mikoshi bearers by serving
“Afuri,” a sake brewed by Kikkawa Jozo, adding our own small touch to the festivities.

Having the mikoshi visit right in front of our hotel allowed us
to feel even more connected to this local celebration,
creating a memorable moment for all of us at Hayama Umino Hotel.

The approach to Morito Shrine was lined with numerous festival food stalls,
attracting many local residents and creating a lively atmosphere throughout the area.

As night fell, the mikoshi were illuminated, revealing a completely different side of the festival.

The sight of the illuminated mikoshi moving through the streets of Hayama
was both powerful and enchanting,
offering a beautiful contrast to their energetic presence during the day.

The Morito Shrine Reitaisai is a celebration filled with the unique charm of Hayama—a place
where the sea, the town, and its people are deeply connected.

From the powerful sight of the mikoshi entering the sea to the five mikoshi gathered at Morito Beach,
and the beautifully illuminated mikoshi at night,
the festival offered many memorable moments that captured the spirit of Hayama.
